Marquee Audio have taken the legacy of the famous Soho nightclub after which it is named
- securing and safeguarding it with a dynamic approach to pro-audio design and distribution
in the new millennium.
The audio company was started by Spencer Brooks in 1988, marking the third generation of
his family to be associated with the Marquee name .
It was more than 15 years ago that Marquee Audio set up shop at Shepperton Film Studios.
Although the Marquee Club itself has long since gone, by a remarkable coincidence we
returned to the site of the old venue back in 2000 - now Terence Conran's famous Mezzo
restaurant - to deliver a new sound desk. If nothing else, it shows the extent to which
our customer universe has expanded over the years.
Under Spencer Brooks' direction Marquee Audio has developed exponentially from a first
year turnover of £200,000.
The project which provided the platform for Marquee's entry to major league was the
multi-lateral Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA) - a mighty, ongoing studio
contract for which we tendered and won in 1995.
This was a major milestone for the company, exposing us to a new stratum of serious pro
audio consultants. The initial 1 million pound contract was subsequently extended into
several further phases.
Through it all, Marquee Audio have prospered as a bona fide sales and distribution
company, regularly breaking new kit into the marketplace and picking up a succession
of "Top Dealer" awards for companies such as Yamaha, Sennheiser and Trantec.
We have constantly been at the forefront of professional audio technology, bringing
customers the latest developments from a wide range of manufacturers, and have closely
monitored the changes within our chief suppliers' ranges. A prime example of this is
the progression within BSS from the MCS and FDS analogue crossovers, via the digital
technology of the Omnidrive to the latest DSP-based matrix at the heart of their
Soundweb. Yamaha have also maintained their position at the cutting-edge, and Marquee
Audio have been proud to be involved with the development of affordable digital
mixing consoles from the DMP-7, via the ProMix 01, 02R and 03D to the mind-blowing
capabilities of the PM1D system.
A natural extension of this keen eye for technological advances is the inclusion of a
number of computer-based recording systems available for extensive demonstration and
for sale at Marquee Audio. Both Mac and PC platforms are covered, and Digidesign's
Protools and Steinberg’s Cubase systems feature heavily. Marquee's particular angle
on this crowded marketplace is that the unique systems approach that we bring to more
traditional audio systems is just as appropriate for digital recording systems.
Consultancy, system design, assembly, commissioning and support are essential
ingredients in a successful audio system and all are available in abundance at
Marquee Audio.
While continuing to win a series of major studio, live, dance and concert venue
contracts - such as the Royal Festival Hall - we have maintained a level of customer
service that has made us first choice for many of the UK's leading audio consultants
and specifiers.
Far from becoming complacent, in recent years we have worked tirelessly on improving
our infrastructure, and in 1999 unveiled our fully-equipped studio demonstration suite
- a move that was accompanied by a series of workshops and seminars and our appointment
as main dealers by several leading brands.
This culminated in being awarded the coveted ISO:9001 certification in 2000,
underlining our commitment to best practice.
With this important accreditation - and a motivated and specialist human resource now
numbering around 20 people - we enter the new millennium knowing that we can service
any type of pro audio enquiry - whatever the scale, whatever the environment,
providing the appropriate level of expertise, technical advise, hand-holding and
after sales... through to the end of the contract and beyond.
